Transitions During the Day at HomeBeing at home can provide the need for a lot of transitions throughout the day. Tap into your child's love of games to create easier transitions from one activity to another. Invite your child to play the “1, 2, 3, Count with Me!” game as you count together how many toys to put away, how many steps it takes to get to the bathtub, or even how many people need a plate for dinner. You an also try singing the "ABC Song" and give your child an ABC Challenge for any transition during the day. Try getting all the toys away, coat and shoes on, to the dinner table, etc. by the time you get to the end of the song..."Next time won't you sing with me!" Add an extra element of fun by trying different types of movement.

A lap bounce video with Ms. Lena to "Row Row Row Your Boat" and also a tissue flower craft tutorial! Sending lots of musical thoughts to you and yours! Music & MathNo one understands your little one better than you! After all, you know what your child likes to eat and how (while standing up, with foods not touching one another, and with everything on a special plate…), the best way to entice a full belly laugh, and the difference between the “I’m hurt” cry and the “I’m really tired” cry. But did you know that your little one is already a budding mathematician? It’s true!
Learning about the building blocks of math—such as size, measurement, pattern recognition, and counting by rote—starts early. Here are some suggestions for incorporating math into your day today! Give your child a medium-sized container like a cloth bin, a basket, or even an empty diaper box. Provide toys or toddler-safe objects for him to put in and then dump out of the container (over and over again). This kind of play allows your child to explore the basic math concepts of size, measurement, and capacity. Also, we've included a link below to a free resource from Kindermusik. This Kindermusik e-book--Music and…Math—includes musical activities to do together as a family. Have fun being together and learning at the same time! Pretend Play - A Child's Job“We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” George Bernard Shaw If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then your toddler probably lavishes you with flattery throughout the day. You might notice your child “driving” in the backseat, putting a diaper on a favorite stuffed animal, or even “taking a photo” and “posting” it to Facebook with your phone. All of this imitation helps your toddler to begin experiencing the world from an external point of view. For toddlers, imitating the behaviors they see around them is an early stage of pretend play and lays the groundwork for the development of empathy, emotional intelligence, creativity, and imagination.
